PLANS to open a take-away in a former Co-Op store in Cullingworth have been refused for a second time.

Last year an application to divide the vacant store on Greenside Lane, creating a take away and smaller shop unit, were refused by planning officers at Bradford Council.

They argued that the business would go against the Council's hot food take away policy, which prevents new take aways opening within 400m of a school, park or youth facility.

Officers said the business, expected to be a pizza take away, would be within 400 m from Parkside School, The Village Primary School, the local park/recreation field, Village Hall and local Cricket Club.

Highways officers also said there was not enough on site parking for a take away and shop.

Applicant Benjamin Frudd re-submitted the plans, arguing that the business would fall within the Cullingworth "local centre" and so was exempt from the take away policy.

The new application also questioned the Council's claim that Parkside School and The Village Primary School were within 400m of the site.

It claimed the businesses would have a "negligible" impact on traffic.

But, 14 people objected to the new application, and these plans have once again been refused.

Officers said although the site is in the village centre in the draft local plan - that document has yet to be adopted. They stood by their claim that the two businesses would lead to an intensification of traffic and "overspill" parking onto neighbouring highways.
