A HISTORIC former Sunday School which has been partly converted into a stunning rustic home is set to go under the hammer later this week.

The old Wesleyan Sunday School in Keighley Road, Denholme, built in 1838, is up for auction with a guide price of £250,000.

So far only one bid has been made, for £200,000, with six other bidders watching, and the hammer is set to fall at 12.30pm on Friday, January 14.

The property is currently just a one bedroom detached home but was never completed, and has potential to have four bedrooms with further renovation.

It is also marketed with the potential to be repurposed for commercial use as it hasn’t been designated as a residential property.

Estate agents Your Move advise investors to “bring your sketch book and imagination as there is a wonderful blank canvas to work from”.

Throughout the building features exposed brickwork and ornate arched windows, and Your Move urge people “not to miss out on an incredible opportunity”.

On the ground floor is a small kitchen and seating area with exposed stone and ceiling beams, featuring a cosy wood burning stove and spiral staircase.

The cosy bathroom again has exposed stone and beams, while also featuring a standalone bath, shower cubicle and skylight.

The only bedroom there currently is a cosy double bedroom with more historic features.

The rest of the building is open and yet to be completed, a singly storey space with arched windows and exposed beams, prime for redevelopment into a large living space and the installation of more first floor bedroom space.

Outside is a small cobbled driveway and historic stepped entrance, while to the rear is a small narrow balcony style area with benches, but no garden.

The Sunday school was operated by the Wesleyan Methodist Church, formed in the 1790s following a split from the Church of England, becoming defunct in 1932 when the various Methodist denominations in Britain merged.
