A MALE pedestrian suffered serious injuries after he was hit by a car.

The incident occurred on New North Road on Saturday evening with emergency services called at around 6.36pm with a police cordon appearing near The Old Hall pub.

The car stopped at the scene and a 27-year-old was taken to hospital.

The injuries were determined not to be life threatening.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Emergency services were called to New North Road, Heckmondwike at about 6.36pm on Saturday evening to a report a car had been in collision with a pedestrian.

"The car stopped at the scene and a 27-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"The injuries were determined to not be life threatening.

"A road closure was put in place while investigation work was carried out at the scene, with the road re-opening later that evening.

"Enquiries remain ongoing."
