THESE are the 16 areas of Bradford with the highest Covid-19 infection rates over the past week.

The number of infections in the district has continued to increase in recent days, with Bradford’s infection rate at its highest ever number.

There were 6,499 new cases recorded in the last seven days of 2021 – the most recent accurate figures – an increase of 90.8 per cent from a week earlier.

The infection rate in Bradford stands at 1,198.8 cases per 100,000 people, meaning more than one in 83 people in the district have had Covid-19 in the past week.

Bradford has the lowest infection rate in Yorkshire and the Humber but it is still the highest the district has seen – and in some areas the number is even higher.

When the highly transmissible Omicron variant hit, the Government had to update its colour-coded map of Covid cases with an even darker shade of purple for areas with an infection rate above 1,600 cases per 100,000 people.

There are now 16 areas in Bradford which had turned this deep shade of purple as case numbers continue to spiral as Omicron spreads.

In every area at least one in 62 people have Covid right now, while in the worst hit area, this is down to one in 43 people.
