A WEST Yorkshire Police operation reached a significant milestone last week.
Operation Jemlock, launched in 2019 in response to rising violence and knife crime, have now seized a huge 1000 weapons.
The above axe was one of six weapons which brought the tally into four digits over the two-year period.
Jemlock was created after the Chief Constable, John Robins QPM met with the Home Secretary and other chief officers in March 2019.
Following that meeting, a number of police forces were given additional Home Office funding to tackle the issue of serious violence.
Further funding for a second financial year was allocated in April 2020 and it ensured the operation was able to continue.
On December 20, Operation Jemlock tweeted: "Last night was another Jemlock milestone - we have now seized 1000 weapons off the streets of West Yorkshire.
"The above axe was one of six weapons found during a stop search."
