ALMOST 130 dangerous dogs have been destroyed in West Yorkshire since 2019.

The figures were revealed through a Freedom of Information request to West Yorkshire Police.

It also reveals the number of dogs seized under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

In 2019, that figure stood at 196; 135 in 2020 and 136 as of November 23 this year.

Of the dogs seized under the Act, 59 were destroyed in 2019; 35 in 2020 and 34 this year.

This information was not recorded prior to 2019.

Under the Dangerous Dogs Act, it's illegal for a dog to be 'out of control' or to bite or attack someone. The legislation also makes it an offence if a person is worried or afraid that a dog may bite them.
