A POPULAR video featuring a Bradford family singing a Greengates junction parody of 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' is going viral.

Greengates man Tom Harmer, who is featured in the video with his three children, Poppy, Jules and Holly, was "surprised" by the online response but added that it has received a "really good" reaction in the community.

The festive video features Tom and his girls singing about numerous frustrations with the traffic while the family drives through the junction.

They start off with "It's Christmas time and we're dreading going anywhere cause it's Christmas time Howard are doing road repairs."

Some lines in the song talk about frustrations with overtaking drives and long waits in traffic queues before they finish with three rousing verses of "Don't they know we need to get through Greengates junction" and cheers at the relief of finally making it through the junction.

"It's been a bit of surprise but it's struck a chord," said Tom. "It was written by my 13-year-old daughter Poppy.

Poppy said: "I wanted to bring some comedy to lighten the mood at Christmas."

Tom said: "It does bring some fun and humour at Christmas this year."

Tom, who works as a freelance video editor, said: "The girls are used to being filmed so it was easy to make - although we had to drive through the junction four times to do it.

"It's so annoying to try and get through the junction," said Poppy. "I play football and sometimes it makes me late for a match."

Poppy's sister Jules, who is 11, added: "It's just really stressful on the school run."

"The roadworks at the junction have been very frustrating," said Tom. "We've had 18 months of frustration with delays and the finishing date keeps getting pushed back.

"We've also seen a fair bit of aggression from drivers with people not letting other people in and others overtaking.

"There a lot of talk about drivers breaking the highway code on the local Facebook group Greengates Matters."

Tom said his family recently did two performances of the song in the community.

The first was at a beer and carols evening at the Dog and Gun pub in Apperley Bridge.

"Everyone loved it and after people had had a few drinks, they were singing along. It's very catchy."

The family also performed a carols evening along the canal at the marina in Apperley Bridge.
