TAXI and private hire drivers are being urged to be on guard by police following a recent spike in thefts.

Officers at Bradford East Neighbourhood Policing Team have noticed an increase in thefts from vehicles in the area.

Idle and Thackley, Eccleshill, Bolton and Undercliffe, and Bradford Moor are the areas worst hit by thieves currently.

The most common vehicles being targeted are taxis and private hire cars, with thieves aiming to steal cash floats left in vehicles overnight.

Drivers are being urged to take care and be mindful to take all valuables and cash out of their vehicles when they are not in use and overnight.

Along with taxi and private hire drivers, all motorists are being urged to take care to remove any valuables from their vehicles.

West Yorkshire Police is urging anyone who sees suspicious activity in the area, or whose vehicle is broken into, to report it to police by calling 101, or using the live chat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website.
