Two land ambulances and an emergency care practitioner joined the aircraft on Leaventhorpe Lane, next to Beckfoot Thornton School, at 2.10pm to attend what is understood to have been a medical incident.

The patient was rushed to hospital via land ambulance.

Although the emergency helicopter did not carry the patient to hospital, sometimes there might be a doctor onboard with a higher level of clinical care who can prove to be extremely useful.

A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We got a call at 2.10pm to reports of a male who had collapsed in Leaventhorpe Lane in the vicinity of the school and the recreational centre.

"We sent two ambulances, the air ambulance and an emergency care practitioner to the scene.

"The patient was taken to hospital by land ambulance."
