TWO Bradford Councillors have been highly commended at a national award ceremony.

The LGiU and CCLA Councillor Awards 2021 were held in London last week, and three Bradford Councillors had been shortlisted for awards.

Councillor Mohammed Nazam (Cons, Keighley Central Ward) was shortlisted for the Resilience and Recovery Award, for his work in the town during the pandemic. Although he missed out on the top prize, he came highly commended.

Councillor Vick Jenkins (Independent Socialist, Shipley) was shortlisted for the Community Champion Award - a category she came Highley Commended in.

And long serving Councillor Dale Smith (Cons, Wharfedale) was shortlisted for the Lifetime Achievement Award to recognise the 58 years of service as a Councillor and the community work he has been involved in across Bradford District.

Cllr Smith said “It was a privilege to be nominated but without the wholehearted support of my wife Margaret, my family, friends and colleagues I would not have had the opportunity to serve the communities of Bradford District and help deliver positive changes.”

Cllr Nazam said “I am extremely proud to have been recognised as *Highly Commended* by the national LGiU Cllr Awards. I would like to thank all my constituents who nominated me and those who recognised my dedication and commitment as a District Councillor for the Keighley Central Ward on Bradford Council.

"It has been 6 months since being elected District Councillor and I am delighted to have been given this opportunity to represent my constituents. As a Councillor, I always endeavour to do my best for my constituents and will continue to work hard for the residents of Keighley Central."

Cllr Jenkins said: "I’d like to thank those that took the time to nominate me and I am pleased and flattered to have got a highly commended. As with all these types of awards I’d like to think it is in appreciation of the hard work and commitment that so many Councillors put in to support their local area."
