A local Majorette group which started out in 2019 has had a large amount of success this season.

Centre Stage, which practices at Ravenscliffe Youth Club has received 22 team awards and 111 solo places this season.

The troupe competed in six outdoor competitions in Wakefield and the National Executive Cup in Skegness.

Centre Stage won the Troupe of the Year, with Lillie-Grace Best, who is part of the England team, winning the National Executive Cup, Star of the Future award. Lilly also won a British Majorette Sports Association scholarship.

The group was set up in January 2019 and was forced to close due to the pandemic.

Nicola Standing said: “To say we were closed for 11 months shows just how hard this group has worked.”

“When I was a young girl, everyone did Majorettes and I think the sport is making a comeback.

“It’s something fun and the kids really enjoy it.

“This is an expensive sport but everyone at Centre Stage is a volunteer and we put time and effort in.

“We fundraise a lot to keep the group the going."

The troupe is currently made up of eight girls, two of which are on the England team, but Centre stage are looking for more join.

The troupe train every Wednesday at Ravenscliffe Youth Club.

Ms Standing added: “This is a really fun sport and this troupe is really hardworking, and hopefully next season we win more awards.”
