TWO people escaped from a house fire in Cleckheaton in the early hours of this morning.

An appliance from Shipley Fire Station, two from Dewsbury Fire Station and the watch commander at Cleckheaton Fire Station were called to the fire on West End Drive, Cleckheaton, at 2am this morning.

Martin Bleasdale, watch commander at Cleckheaton, said that a laundry area near the kitchen was fully involved in fire.

Firefighters used one hose reel and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire, which the watch commander was "believed to be caused by a fault in a tumble dryer".

He added: "Two occupants were alerted to the fire by smoke detection and managed to make their way out."

In addition to the fire damage in the laundry area, Mr Bleasdale said there was smoke damage throughout the house.
