TREES have been planted in a Bradford park to honour the work of Bradford doulas.

The five Hornbeam trees were added to Myra Shay Recreation Ground, Barkerend, as part of a project delivered between Better Start Bradford's Better Place initiative, Get out More Community Interest Company, schools in the area and Bradford Council.

The project has taken a piece of the recreation ground and added special elements to it. There are be places to sit, meet, feed young babies and children, plus grassy mounds to play on and roll down.

There are also places where a canopy can be erected to give shelter from the elements, so bad weather will never stop play and learning through Forest School activities.

The trees represent over 500 women and babies doulas have supported over the last 10 years, along with volunteers who have given time to support families through pregnancy.

Aliya Fazil, Bradford Doulas Project Manager, said: “These five trees will symbolise the growth and nurture that runs through the very backbone of the support that we provide as doulas.

“We are delighted that so much work is being put into beautiful green spaces for Bradford families to use as their babies grow."
