THREE 11-year-old children from The Hollies, a children’s residential home in Bradford district, took part in a sponsored walk to raise money for Children in Need.

The children battled extremely harsh weather conditions, including high winds from Storm Arwen, to complete a mountain walk called the Norber Circular in four-and-a-half hours last Saturday.

The Norber Circular is a walk from Clapham in the Yorkshire Dales which involves a climb to the Norber erratics. The 'erratics' are a group of extraordinary natural stone boulders moved during the Ice Age which can be seen strewn across the fields.

The original plan was to climb Pen-y-Ghent, but the extremely high force winds, combined with fallen trees, meant the walking guide felt it was too dangerous for the children to climb that particular mountain.

The children showed resilience and determination, by adapting their plans and undertook the alternative walk, which still involved a mountain climb battling treacherous weather conditions, including high wind, snow and sleet.

Rachel Crossland-Green, Manager of The Hollies, said: "They were determined to complete the walk despite how hard it was especially approaching the mountain summit.

“The children gave each other the encouragement to continue and their brave efforts raised over £400 for Children in Need."
