A CHURCH in Essex has expressed its "shock and sorrow" and shared a heartfelt tribute to Bori Benko, a woman who was found dead in her flat on Sherborne Road in Bradford on Sunday.

A 21-year-old male who was arrested on suspicion of murder remains in police custody at this time.

Bori, 24, originally from Hungary, came to the UK as a youth worker in 2016.

The Rev Matthew Simpkins, Priest in Charge of the Parish of Lexden, shared the following tribute on the Facebook page of St Leonard's Church.

"Dear friends, I write with some very difficult news.

"It is with great shock and deep sorrow that we have learned of the death of Bori Benkő. As a Time for God volunteer at St Leonard’s, Bori helped lead Lexden Parish’s youth work during 2016 and 2017. She worked with our baby and toddler group, and all our children’s and youth ministry.

"She was known and loved across the church and community here, having also worked with the local Beaver, Rainbow, Cub and Scout groups.

"We will remember Bori with great affection as someone with a warm, caring and loving personality. She was known by her laughter and friendship, and through her faith and holiness.

"Bori clearly delighted in meeting people from all backgrounds, and she was cherished back by both young and old. We give thanks for her wonderful Christian witness amongst us, and for her precious friendship. We pray for her, for her family, and all who loved her.

"A book of condolence will be placed in the Lady Chapel at St Leonard’s from tomorrow morning, which will be available during the church’s opening hours. A prayer station will also be available there with candles, prayers and psalms.

"I will be at Sunday's Junior Church session, and I invite all members and helpers at our children's and youth groups to come along so that we can gather, reflect and pray. We will also offer prayers during our main service.

Rev Simpkins also shared two prayers with his parishioners.

"Remember, O Lord, your servant Bori, who has gone before us with the sign of faith and now rests in Christ. According to your promises, grant to her and to all who rest in Christ, refreshment, light and peace; through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

"God of all consolation, your Son Jesus Christ was moved to tears at the grave of Lazarus his friend. Look with compassion on your children in their loss; give to troubled hearts the light of hope and strengthen in us the gift of faith, in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."
