10-year-old Dylan Cannar, who attends Wellington Primary School used his birthday money to buy food for a local foodbank.
Dylan, who is from Undercliffe, came home from school with a letter asking parents if they could buy food to donate for a foodbank.
The 10-year-old, who celebrated his birthday on November 16, used 30 pounds of his birthday money to buy food.
Dylan said: “I feel really happy, and I was inspired to do this by my mum.
“She’s a kind person and I’m inspired by her.”
With the help of his mum, Dylan bought most things off the list and added a couple of extra essentials such as toilet paper, toothpaste, and coffee.
Jo Lizzie, Dylan’s mum said: “He was so excited to do this, and he happily suggested using his birthday money to buy the food with it.”
Jo and Dylan split the cost of the food shop between them.
Jo said: “Dylan told me when I asked him how he felt that he was so happy to help people who couldn’t afford food.
“He seems really pleased with himself.”
