A MOTORWAY carriageway was closed after a crash involving multiple vehicles.

The collision happened on the eastbound carriageway of the M62, between junction 29 (Lofthouse) and junction 30 (Rothwell).

Highways Officers shut the carriageway at 4.45pm to deal with the crash.

This caused congestion to build and traffic was stretching back roughly seven miles to junction 28 (Tingley) at its peak, according to National Highways.

It was adding an extra 30 minutes onto normal journeys.

But one of the lanes reopened more than two-and-a-half hours later, at 7.20pm.

Lanes two and three (of three) have remained closed.

Trapped traffic within the full closure was released earlier today.
