DYNAMO says he was excited to watch some of his wrestling heroes as he made a return to West Yorkshire.

The Bradford-born world famous illusionist was at the First Direct Arena in Leeds last night to watch the stars of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in action.

Dynamo, who grew up as Steven Frayne in Delph Hill near Wyke, posed for pictures with fans as he took his seat among the crowd during a night out with friends.

Speaking to the Telegraph & Argus at the wrestling event before it got under way, now London-based Dynamo talked about being a long-term fan of the WWE, including of superstar wrestler Rey Mysterio, who has been with the organisation for almost 20 years but did not appear at the Leeds show.

He said: "I used to watch it when I was a kid.

"I'm excited to come and watch it, more so than my mate's kids that I'm watching it with.

"I'm gutted that Rey Mysterio is not here tonight."

Dynamo and the rest of the Leeds crowd were treated to a night of entertainment from some of the top stars of the WWE.

Wrestlers including Scotland's Drew McIntyre, Jeff Hardy, Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks got the crowd in Leeds going with their antics inside the ring.

The fans got to see an action-packed night featuring WWE Intercontinental, NXT championship matches and a main event for the WWE Smackdown women's title between champion Flair and challenger Banks.

The wrestlers were also happy to pose for selfies at ringside before and after their matches.

Some of the stars the crowd were more happy to boo got them going with anti-Yorkshire and Leeds chants.

Sheamus, originally from Dublin, called the Leeds crowd 'Yorkshire Muppets', adding 'Yorkshire puddings are harder than you lot' to rile the crowd, made up of all ages.

Another wrestler who did not please the crowd was Happy Corbin, who also got on the microphone and mistakenly said that they were were in Manchester for the Leeds show.

But fans' favourite Natalya, daughter of the late 1980s and '90s WWE star Jim 'The Anvil' Neidhart, got the crowd on her side with a chant of 'Leeds, Leeds, Leeds'.

McIntyre, who teamed with Hardy for an impromptu tag team match against Corbin and Madcap Moss, spoke to the T&A last week and said he loves being back performing in front of the UK crowds again.

This was the second time the WWE has returned to the UK for a tour since travel restrictions were lifted due to the pandemic. But it was the first time the organisation has put on a show in front of fans at Leeds for two years.

The three-hour spectacular in Leeds formed part of the WWE's Live UK tour which has also stopped at venues including Sheffield, Birmingham and Liverpool.
