SPONSORED by Bradford for Everyone, the Shared Values in Action award is all about recognising the people, initiatives and actions that help to ensure the Bradford district is a place where everyone feels they belong, are understood, feel safe and able to fully participate in the opportunities available to them.

The finalists for this category are Ludmila Novosjolova, Colin Simmons and Bradford for Everyone Ambassadors.

Ludmila is part of the Better Start Bradford partnership board and attends this as a community representative, on a voluntary basis.

“She has also been involved in sub-groups of the partnership board and has dedicated a lot of her time to support the partnership”, said a person who nominated her.

“Ludmila is so proactive and a real doer. Her commitment to the partnership board has demonstrated her passion to ensure parent’s voices are represented.

“Ludmila has also actively been involved in play and parent groups to make sure there are things in the area for local parents and toddlers to do.

“She leads by example and is supportive of others, and also acts as a translator for older people to ensure they can come to groups and understand the basics of what is happening, as well as the support there is for them and their families.

“Ludmila’s passion never tires and she is the real face of the community when people attend groups and recognise her there.”

Colin has dedicated “45 years of his valued time” to supporting young people and adults in Bradford and Pudsey, teaching martial arts classes and ensuring that lessons are inclusive and affordable.

He also volunteers at a Sikh temple and has raised money for charities such as Matin House and Marie Curie.

“It is very rare to find someone with Colin’s qualities. He is always there to offer advice and information to help young people achieve their goals”, said a person who nominated him.

“He does his utmost to support the people he knows and does knot know. He has always checked in on those who are or have been ill, including supporting a person who has been through several kidney operations.

“Colin is a very caring person who shows genuine interest in his community. I believe he deserves some kind of recognition for trying to make Bradford an inclusive and welcoming place.”
