Our health is affected by the environments where we work and the places where we live. Living Well aims to make it easier for people in Bradford district to make healthier choices at home, school, work and in their everyday lives.

We are working with local employers to find out how we can help them to improve the health and wellbeing of their staff by improving working conditions and environments, offering free training opportunities for staff development and access to health initiatives. We can also provide expert support for people who want to quit smoking, get fitter and eat more healthily.

There is clear evidence that good work and healthy workplaces improves health and wellbeing. Wellbeing at work is important because:

  • On average adults spend about a third of their lives at work, so workplaces have a big impact on our health and wellbeing.
  • Healthier workforces are more productive and motivated.
  • They also have reduced staff turnover and increased retention rates.
  • There is reduced illness amongst staff in healthier workforces.

We are currently developing our Healthy Workplaces programme. In the meantime please have a look at the following initiatives we have on offer and please promote them at in your workplace:

  • A range of free mental health training and webinars is available through our mental health and wellbeing platform. Training topics include improving sleep; understanding and managing low mood and suicide awareness.
  • Free Royal Society of Public Health training available including health awareness and health improvement. They are suitable for anyone living or working in the Bradford District who would like to learn more about health and wellbeing.
  • Healthy Weight – We are currently offering a 12 week free membership to the ‘Get Slim’ programme. It includes: online support 7 days a week from a qualified coach, a food diary, fitness tracker, free service to convert your favourite recipes into a healthier version, 100s of fitness videos, a dedicated men’s health section and much more.

Living Well is an initiative led by Bradford Council’s Public Health team and the local NHS. We are working with lots of organisations and community groups. Our goal is to help people live longer, healthier lives, by reducing preventable illness and helping people get active and make healthier choices.
