A BINGLEY woman smashed the front door and kitchen window of a caravan with a hammer where her former partner was staying because she was angry she couldn’t retrieve horse riding tack, Skipton magistrates were told.

Angela Bowdin, 49, of Leonard Place, Bingley, admitted a charge of criminal damage at a caravan at Fell House, Eastby, near Skipton, which belonged to Robin Burgess, father of her former partner, Tom Burgess.

Magistrates heard the incident occurred on September 3 this year while Mr Burgess senior was away and his son was staying at the caravan.

Defending, Keith Blackwell said his client and Tom Burgess had been in a relationship for a number of years but which had ended.

She had asked for return of the tack and went to the site thinking the tack was in a shed.

“She could not get the shed door to open and as a consequence went to her vehicle to get a hammer. She was extremely angry and smashed the glass in the door and the kitchen window of the caravan,” Mr Blackwell said. The police were called and she was arrested.

Mr Blackwell said his client was remorseful. She was on benefits and on medication for mental health issues.

She was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay Mr Burgess senior £300 in compensation. She must also pay a £22 surcharge but no award was made for costs.
