A MALE bike rider had to be rescued from a deep ditch following a road traffic collision near the Cow and Calf in Ilkley

The West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said they received a call at 9.47am yesterday from the ambulance service to assist in the rescue of a male who had been involved in road traffic collision whilst on his bike near the Cow and Calf.

He had left the road and was injured down a deep ditch.

Fire crews arrived on scene and rescued the casualty then placed him in the care of ambulance crews.

Appliances from Ilkley and Otley fire stations were mobilised along with specialist line rescue teams from Rawdon and Cleckheaton.

The Ilkley crew was able to rescue the casualty safely and succesfully prior to arrival of the other appliances.
