TRIBUTES have poured in following the tragic death of a 10-year-old boy who was hit by a van on a major Bradford road.

Tayyab Akram, from East Bowling, was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary after the collision, which happened on Wakefield Road just before 7pm on October 13.

The youngster was placed on life support in an induced coma, but his injuries were too serious for him to recover and he passed away in hospital on Tuesday night.

Scores of tributes have been left, including in a book of condolence on the Telegraph & Argus website.

Naomi Maragh said: “Rest in peace little man. Too young to be taken and so very sad. It’s heartbreaking news and my only hope is that your family get the help and support they need. I can’t imagine what they are going through.”

Shaista Parveen added: “A young life taken away so soon. My thoughts are with the family of this beautiful little boy.”

“Rest in peace little angel,” said Rose Mitchell.

The news of Tayyab’s death was posted by close family friend Abdul Satar, who said on social media: “It is heartbreaking. We were so hopeful he would pull through but he was too poorly.

“He was a super, beautiful, innocent little boy. We cannot believe what has happened. Everyone is devastated.”

In an update yesterday, police said: “West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Enquiry Team are now leading the investigation and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have footage that will assist, to come forward.”

A spokesperson said the driver of the van, a 48-year-old man from Bradford, has been spoken to by officers.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Sergeant Fiona Allan, added: “We are supporting Tayyab’s family, who are understandably very upset at the sudden loss of their child. We are also keen to speak with anyone who saw the collision, or who saw the movements of either the white Mercedes Sprinter van or the victim immediately prior to it. Our initial enquiries into the collision suggest the area was busy with traffic at the time, so we believe people will have witnessed what happened.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101 or via the West Yorkshire Police website, quoting log reference 1490 of October 13.
