THE husband of murdered Batley MP Jo Cox condemned the fatal stabbing of an MP.
A man has been arrested after Conservative MP Sir David Amess was reportedly stabbed several times at a surgery in his Southend West constituency.
The 69-year-old was attacked today at Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea.
In a statement, Essex Police said officers arrived at the scene in Eastwood Road North shortly after 12.05pm and arrested a man.
A knife was also recovered from the area.
Jo Cox, 41, was shot and stabbed in her constituency by a far-right supporter, on June 16, 2016. Thomas Mair was found guilty of her murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Her husband, Brendan Cox, tweeted after Sir David's death was confirmed:
My thoughts and love are with David’s family. They are all that matter now. This brings everything back. The pain, the loss, but also how much love the public gave us following the loss of Jo. I hope we can do the same for David now. pic.twitter.com/hwRN0PODPK
