POLICE have asked motorists to avoid the area of a six-vehicle crash on the M606 this afternoon.

Police were called to the scene of the collision, northbound carriageway between the Euroway Industrial Estate and the Staygate roundabout, at 11.10am.

One person was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not believed to be life changing or life threatening at this time.

Traffic on the southbound carriageway was briefly held to allow the air ambulance to land at around 11.40am.

Traffic reports state: "Traffic is stationary on the A1677 as it joins the motorway.

"Diversion via Staithgate Lane."

Normal traffic conditions are not expected until around 3.15pm to 3.30pm.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Police were called to a report of a collision involving six vehicles on the M606 Motorway at 11.10am today.

"One person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, which are not believed to be life changing or life threatening at this time.

"Traffic is being redirected and motorists are asked to avoid the area at this time while enquiries continue at the scene."
