POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman was seriously injured after being hit by a lorry in Keighley yesterday afternoon.

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit would like to speak to anyone who saw the collision, which occurred in Aireworth Street in Keighley at about 1.44pm on Friday.

A DAF heavy goods vehicle hit the woman as she was walking on a zebra crossing; the lorry had been stationary at the crossing to let other pedestrians cross, and as it moved off the woman was in collision with the lorry’s nearside.

The woman was airlifted to hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries, but they are not believed to be life threatening.

The road was closed for some time following the collision to allow enquiries to take place.

Anyone who saw the collision, the lorry before the incident, or who has dashcam footage of what took place is asked to contact the Western Area Roads Policing Unit by calling 101 quoting police log number 0893 of October 8.

Information can also be given using the live chat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website, or by calling independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
