PLANS to build a new 20 metre tall 5G phone mast in Great Horton have been given the go ahead by Bradford Council.

The new monopole will be erected in Ingleby Road, by the junction with Legrams Lane, by phone network provider Three, to provide communities in the area with the newest, fastest mobile coverage.

New masts such as this one are needed to handle the increased demand for coverage and to deal with the new technology.

Three said the 20 metre height of the mast is the “absolute minimum” needed for 5G coverage and the site carefully selected to not put pedestrians or drivers at risk while providing maximum coverage, and that it will blend into the streetscape thanks to nearby street lights.

Three also added: “There would be clear economic and social benefits associated with allowing the telecommunications development.”

In making its decision on the application, Bradford Council planning officers said that prior approval for these kinds of developments is not required, meaning the installation of the mast can go ahead.

It means Three can now install the 20 metre tall monopole, along with a wraparound cabinet at its base and other associated ancillary works.
