A BRADFORD boy has become the Yorkshire Champion in the 52kg division after fighting on Sunday September 26.

Abdul- Rehman, 14, who lives in the BD6 area, beat his Bradford opponent in the finals held at Doncaster’s Skellow Social Club.

The match had to be halted in the third of three rounds due to his opponent’s injuries.

Abdul-Rehman, who has been a keen fighter since the age of six, was declared the winner due to his opponent being unable to continue.

Coach Mickeal at Burmantofts Boxing Club, Leeds, said: “Abdul-Rehman fought unbelievably; he was too good for his opponent as can be seen from the third-round stoppage.

“Abdul-Rehman is a great kid to have in the gym.

“He’s improved so much since he first started and after lockdown he seems to have gotten better.

“He will be very close to winning the nationals this year.”

The Bradford boxer is set to fight again this weekend in Bridlington to compete in the nationals.

Mohammed Shahnawaz, father of Abdul-Rehman said: “I feel very proud with this achievement and the years of hard work.

“I feel overwhelmed from the nerve-wracking fight.”

His coach added:” If he believes in himself and works hard, I can see him going all the way”
