AN ELDERLY man charged with sending an "indecent or grossly offensive" email to a Bradford MP has had his case adjourned.

Giles Fernandez, 65, of Sutton Grove in Tyersal, appeared at Bradford Magistrates' Court on Friday.

He was charged with sending an "indecent or grossly offensive" email to Bradford South MP Judith Cummins (pictured) on May 2 this year, with the intention of causing her distress or anxiety.

He also faced a charge of harassment without violence for the same incident.

The grey-haired Fernandez, who was wearing olive trousers, a jumper and coat, stood to confirm his name, address and date of birth.

The court heard police had charged Fernandez, but that he should have been charged after advice was sought from a special division for these matters in London.

The prosecution said: “The matter was looked at locally.

“It is being sent to a specialist division, I believe based in London, they will make a decision if charges will be brought.

He added: “It could be summary.”

He finished by saying the prosecution was asking for an adjournment.

Fernandez's defence had no further submissions.

The case was adjourned until October 12, with Fernandez given unconditional bail until 10am of that day.
