THE second phase of work to create natural flood defences on Ilkley Moor is now in full swing.
A helicopter is being used to lay stone to create dams on the moorland. The work will slow down the flow of water down to Backstone Beck which flows into the River Wharfe to prevent flooding on the land below.
This project is a partnership between Bradford Council's Countryside Service, the Environment Agency and the Peak District National Park-based Moors for the Future Partnership.
The helicopter will also be used to fly some stone on to the moors for a footpath repair, funded by the Friends of Ilkley Moor.
