POLICE have confirmed there was a shooting in a Bradford street last night and revealed reports of more "gunshots" just 10 minutes later.

West Yorkshire Police was first called at 6.11pm yesterday to reports of a firearms discharge in Smith Avenue, Wibsey.

People reported hearing "gunshots" in the area and armed officers swooped on the street.

A police cordon was put in place and West Yorkshire Police said this afternoon that investigations confirmed a firearm had been discharged in Smith Avenue.

But no injuries or damage were reported.

Police also revealed that they received reports of further "gunshots" and a crash in Holroyd Hill at 6.23pm - just over 10 minutes after the first incident and a few hundred yards away.

West Yorkshire Police has not yet confirmed whether there is any evidence of a firearm discharge at this location.

Four people have been arrested in connection with the above matters.

They remain in custody currently.

A number of vehicles have also been recovered for further tests.

Police vehicles were seen heading up Rooley Lane in the direction of Odsal roundabout, yesterday evening.

A police plane was also reported to have been flying overhead.

Officers have now launched an appeal for information in relation to the investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Farrell, of Bradford District Police, said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have information about what occurred in the Wibsey area last night to come forward.

“All reports of firearms discharges and disorder are taken seriously and enquiries are underway into the circumstances of these incidents and to identify those who were involved.”
