THE KIRKWOOD hospice have announced an exciting interactive art trail across Kirklees for next Autumn.

The event which will last for eight weeks is in partnership with Wild in Art, a company who have previously held world-class events.

It is expected that hundreds of thousands of people will flock to the art trail, with Kirklees itself having over 400,000 residents.

The aim of the art trail is to highlight the work that the charity does in the local are and the services that it provides.

Jim Coward, Media and Marketing manager at the Kirkwood said: “The art trail is something exciting for everyone involved with The Kirkwood and it gives us a chance to raise the profile so that we can show the services we provide and reach more people.

“People in Kirklees are unaware of all the services that we actually provide and think of The Kirkwood as just the building where people go to at the end, but we offer more than that.

“If people want, we can be with them from the point of diagnosis till the very end.”

Sculptures will be placed across towns and villages in Kirklees, where local artists will be asked to participate in decorating them alongside the help of school children.

This is a collaborative approach to get communities talking about The Kirkwood and the work it does.

“It’s a really exciting for us because nothing like this has ever happened on this scale in West Yorkshire.

“It’s a feather in the cap for Kirklees and I hope they see it that way.”

The official launch for all the information will be October 5, 2021, with work to be completed for the following 12 months.

“This is a community project; we want as many people as possible to be involved to celebrate their towns and villages.

“All the sculptures will be localised, with messages for the areas they are in with messages for the local people.

The art trail will be embedded within the syllabus across schools in Kirklees, where children will have the opportunity to decorate their own sculptures.

Kathryn Box, Event Manager at The Kirkwood said: “Each sculpture represents a message and children will be taught about the meaning behind them alongside the Learning Resources Pack provided by The Kirkwood.”

This event will offer the people of Kirklees, as well as others from neighbouring areas and a far, the chance to explore the area and discover new places.

“We hope it’s seen like a mini adventure for people and it’s something fun for families to do together.
