A PARENT has said that a Bradford primary school should close and undergo a "deep clean" after claiming the number of people who have tested positive with Covid-19 has reached a "ridiculous" level.

The T&A were contacted last week by parents concerned about cases at Shirley Manor Primary Academy in Methuen Oval, Wyke.

In just over a week since then, multiple people have contacted the T&A to say that the situation at Shirley Manor Primary has got worse.

One parent told the T&A: "The amount of people that have tested positive is ridiculous.

Bradford Council has acknowledged the school has some positive cases and measures are in place to minimise the risk of the infection spreading.

The parent said: "The virus is still in school and there are not just a few cases."

The parent believes every year group has been affected with "bubbles now in place" and said that because a number of staff have Covid the school is "short-staffed".

The parent, who has two children with Covid, also said: "I'm scared about them going back to school. It's so rife in school.

"The school should close and it needs a deep clean."

A Bradford Council spokesperson said: “The school has had some positive cases. The school has measures in place to minimise the risk of infection spreading.

"We continue to provide support to schools all across the district at this difficult time. It’s important that we all work together to stop the spread of the virus.

“Any schoolchildren with symptoms should take a PCR test. If the test is positive they must isolate for ten days. If the test is negative and they feel well, they should attend school.”
