WE asked you to nominate your favourite charities for our £25,000 cash giveaway - and the nominations have been coming in.

The Telegraph & Argus is giving local charities chance to take a share of a whopping £125,000 cash handout. Our parent company’s charitable arm, The Gannett Foundation, is providing £125,000 for local charities nationwide and we have a £25,000 share to give away in the Bradford district. And we want YOU to decide where it should be spent.

We’re asking readers to nominate local charities to be considered for a grant. T&A editor Nigel Burton will select eight of the most popular charities then we put the power back into the hands of T&A readers. For four weeks, readers will be invited to collect tokens from our newspapers which can then be sent to collection points across the district or posted. Each token collected will be used to allocate cash to the nominated charity - so if your favourite charity collects 50per cent of all tokens collected, it will receive half the £25,000.

Here are some of the charities nominated so far. We will highlight the other nominated charities over coming weeks.

* Airedale and Wharfedale Autism Resource (AWARE). Says Jackie Rosano: “Aware provide critical support for families whose children are on the autism spectrum. Getting a diagnosis takes almost two years, families are often desperate for help. Aware is run by people with experience of a family where autism exists, it’s a vital support. Based in Addingham, Aware organises events where families can attend knowing it is autism friendly, and that there will be others who understand the situation they are in.”

Adds Mark Glenton: “Not only do they help with emotions, behaviours, triggers, family day outs and workshops, but also in education and bringing awareness of autism with specialist training.”

* Carers Resource. Says Anne Dennison: “Carers Resource is a local charity with a big heart. Their scope is far reaching, from signposting benefits and support services, to helping inspire young carers to be the best they can. The work is vital, when the role of unpaid carers is paramount to family and friends; people need to be supported on navigating that journey.”

Adds: Lauren Jade Dennison: “Tireless work from a dedicated group of individuals, who have gone above and beyond through the pandemic to ensure services have been maintained, even enhanced where possible, so all carers have a voice and a friendly ear.”

* Shipley Area School Uniform Bank. Says Tammy Gore: “This charity does so much to support families in need of school uniforms who can’t afford to buy from the shops, but also opens its doors to families that want to reduce good quality clothes going into landfill.”

* Bradford Cinderella Club. Says Chris Hayden: “They have supported vulnerable and disadvantaged Bradford children for over 130 years and that need is sadly on the increase. The charity continues to touch thousands of children’s lives each year.

Adds James Harry Saville: “Hard hit by Covid, the Cinderella Club has still managed to refurbish its one time headquarters as a short-term respite area for children with care workers. This facility is ready for use and will require ongoing finance. The charity has also distributed up to 1,000 Christmas boxes to children for a number of years. All this is in addition to its primary aim of assisting individual children, enabling them to participate in school and social life in the same way as more fortunate classmates.”

Adds Linda Norton: “The fantastic people who help run this charity don’t get paid and put in valuable time to make sure these children get a bit of help as they grow.”

* Age UK Bradford and District. Says Joanne Volpe: “They work in local communities, listening to what’s important to older people, then raise funds to provide those things. Older people have seen the biggest disadvantages as a result of Covid. Being required to shield, to stay safe and well, has been such a trial for many. Our older residents deserve support to get back out and enjoy their lives.”
