DETECTIVES are appealing for information following a firearms discharge in the Birkby area of Huddersfield last night.

At 9.04pm, police received reports of a male who had been injured following an alleged firearms discharge outside a takeaway on Blacker Road.

Officers attended and found a 28-year-old male with minor injuries to his shoulder consistent with a firearms discharge.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

Enquiries remain ongoing at this time, police confirmed.

A scene is currently in place on Blacker Road, while specialist examination work is carried out.

Detective Inspector Matthew Holdsworth, of the Major Enquiry Team, said: “Our enquiries are in the initial stages and we are very keen to hear from anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area of Blacker Road last night.

“We recognise that incidents of this nature will cause understandable concern in the local community and we are liaising with our colleagues on the local neighbourhood policing team who will be visible in the area to reassure people.

“The criminal use of firearms on the streets is something that we will always treat extremely seriously, and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify those responsible.
