PLANS to upgrade a filling station on one of Bradford's busiest roads have been approved by Bradford Council.

Proposals to demolish the shop unit at the Leeds Road filling station and build anew building, which will include a second shop unit, in its place were proposed earlier this year.

The plans would also see an increase in the number of pumps on the site, and two electric car charging points will be created at the station's car park.

Dewsbury based AY & Y Patel Ltd said the existing shop was "dated" and that the site's redevelopment would create "improved facilities that are more suited to the modern motorists."

The application said the changes amounted to a "significant investment" in the site.

The application has now been approved by planning officers, who said: "The appearance will be more modern with a mix of cladding and glazing typical of modern Petrol service stations.

"The expansion and increase is not significant above and beyond what already can be provided on this site."
