A MAN arrested over the alleged rape of a woman in "broad daylight" in Bradford last week has been bailed by police.

The incident occurred at around 5.45pm in Market Street, Wibsey, on Friday, September 10, and a man, aged 18, was arrested over the weekend.

He was arrested on suspicion of rape and was in custody over the weekend, but he has now been released on bail, police confirmed to the Telegraph & Argus, as enquiries into the incident continue.

The teenage female alleged victim was receiving support by specially-trained officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Al Weekes, of Bradford District CID, said yesterday: “I know incidents like this can cause understandable concern in the local community, and we have increased patrols of highly-visible, uniformed officers in the area.

“I would like to reassure residents that, thankfully, incidents like this are extremely rare – in Wibsey and in the wider West Yorkshire area.

“Our enquiries into the exact circumstances of what happened are continuing.

“We have seen a lot of unhelpful speculation about the nature of what happened on social media, and I would ask people to be mindful when posting.

“I would urge anyone with information about what happened to contact police on 101, quoting crime reference 13210460418.”
