TRAFFIC is building on a major motorway after a crash and a breakdown in the queues.

The collision happened on the westbound carriageway of the M62, between junction 30 (A642, Rothwell) and junction 29 (Lofthouse).

It was first reported at 12.42pm, according to the AA.

Vehicles were held until 1.55pm, but two lanes (two and three of three) were then initially closed.

This was reduced to just a single lane closure (lane three), but that was removed at 3.06pm.

There was also a breakdown within the queueing traffic, which is caused further delays.

The congestion is currently stretching back to junction 32 (Pontefract), with journeys taking an extra 25 minutes than normal.
