BRADFORD has been hit by sudden heavy rain which began at 4pm and has shown no sign of letting up yet.

The thunderstorm - warned by the Met Office earlier - has hit the district, with rumbles of thunder, lightning strikes and heavy rain all descending in dramatic fashion.

Sudden flooding at Chain Bar roundabout, causing major disruption to motorists using the busy motorway junction, and flooding has also hit other roads around the district.

One reader, Anthony, captured this video below of a burst drain in the city centre pouring out onto the street.


In Vicar Lane, near the Bradford Crown Court car park and JobCentre, it is causing chaos for drivers on the one-way loop.

The Met Office has updated its forecast for Bradford, predicting thunderstorms from now until past 10pm, with ther storm showing no sign of letting up.

People have also been sharing photos and comments about the weather online.

Stephen Hunter captured a moody sky descending on Bradford earlier, bringing thunderstorms with it.

Flood alerts have also been issued in the area, for the River Spen through Oakenshaw, Cleckheaton, Heckmondwike, and along Batley Beck in Gomersal and Birstall, as well as Pudsey and Tyersal Becks.
