Latest update on Greengates junction sees 'fantastic progress'

Work has been ongoing for some time on the major, multi-million pound improvements to the junction of Harrogate Road and New Line, which includes the installation of a new P-loop to ease traffic congestion.

Being carried out by Howard Civil Engineering and Bradford Council, in the latest monthly update it was said "significant changes" can now be seen at the site.

Work on Greengates Junction will be ongoing until spring 2022.

The roadworks team said: “Over the past four weeks, we have made fantastic progress on the widened stretch of road on New Line, opposite Asda.

“The first two layers of surfacing to this phase of works have now been laid, and where possible we have fully surfaced the footpath which leads from the entrance of Sainsburys around the corner to Costa and Taco Bell. “We have also laid Yorkstone paving to the shop fronts along this area including Costa and True You Health.

“Further along New Line, we have continued road widening operations on the stretch of road leading from Farmfoods to New Line Retail Park.

“Yorkshire Water have continued the second phase of their diversion works on Harrogate Road, and we are pleased to say the scope of this phase has increased so there will no longer be a need to disrupt the water supply to the war memorial gardens in future.

“Across the road, outside Greengates House, we have formed a temporary footpath which will allow for the restriction of the road outside Greengates Primary School once gas diversion works commence.”

Over the next four weeks, workers will continue to prepare the stretch of road and footpath on New Line leading from Farmfoods to New Line Retail Park for surfacing.

But they say they are still experiencing delays in the supply of cement-based products as a result of the pandemic.

Once these works are complete, the southern flank of New Line will be used for the traffic running lanes, footpaths will be open for pedestrian use, and we will concentrate our focus on the northern flank of the scheme.

The team adds: “Roads have been reduced to two lanes in all directions to enable us to progress with ongoing junction widening works. We anticipate that these traffic management measures will be in place for the foreseeable future. Please allow extra time for travel when passing through the junction.”
