PLANS to turn an empty charity shop in Shipley town centre into a micro-pub have been approved by planning officers.

An application for the former Cellar Trust shop on Kirkgate was submitted by a Mr Carlton earlier this Summer.

The new pub, which would be dubbed the Crafty Kernel, would have seating over two floors, and also serve food - according to the application.

Shipley Town Council had supported the plans, saying the bar would help “draw people into the town centre.”

Planning officers at Bradford Council approved the plans last week, saying the impact of a new bar in a town centre location would have a “relatively insignificant” impact on issues like noise and traffic.

They added: “It is considered that the scale and location of the property is such that bringing this vacant unit back into productive use as a micro pub could not be shown to be harmful to the attractiveness or vitality of the area.”

It will be the latest new pub to open in Shipley after the Groove Pad opened on Saltaire Road last month.
