PLANS for a helipad to be installed in the grounds of a lavish countryside home near Leeds Bradford Airport have been submitted.

The helipad would be situated on land at the end of the garden of Kings Lea, in Smithy Lane, Cookridge, just a mile away from Leeds Bradford Airport.

If approved by Leeds City Council it would take up a small section of land currently used as a paddock at the large home.

The house is accessed by the private Smithy Lane and is surrounded mainly by farmland, paddocks, and other similarly large houses, the nearest of which is located less than 170 metres from the proposed site of the helipad.

Leeds Ramblers Group have been consulted on the plans and have objected to the development, saying it would cause “industrial scale noise and disturbance” on the site which is next to a bridleway and the Leeds Country Way.

They added: “Horse riders would obviously be affected and the peaceful rural atmosphere for walkers would be materially degraded.”

They also criticised the plans as not considering the nearby public right of way and any disturbance and loss of amenity the development could cause.
