A SITE in Silsden can be used for camping for 28 days a year following a recent planning decision.

This Summer an application was submitted to Bradford Council by Jonathan Smith, seeking permission to allow camping at the former tip off Keighley Road.

The site lies between the River Cobby to the North and East, and the River Aire to the South. In 2016 a number of Willow trees were planted on the site - trees that would be used to make cricket bats when fully mature.

The application said the camping, likely to be over weekends in the Summer months, would supplement the Willow farm business.

Plans submitted to make most of expected rise in 'staycations'

Planning officers said this week that due to the temporary nature of the application, it would fall under "permitted development" and did not need full planning permission.

They pointed out that this permitted development would only be for tent camping, not caravans or permanent cabins.

A planning application to turn the Green Belt site into a caravan park was refused by Bradford Council in 2019, and a subsequent appeal against that decision was thrown out by a planning inspector.
