A man caught with a commercial-scale cannabis farm capable of producing more than 12 kilos of the drug will be sentenced at Bradford Crown Court next month.

Jonathan Higgins had his case adjourned today because a probation report ordered by the magistrates had not been produced.

His solicitor advocate, John Bottomley, said it was no one’s fault that it had not been prepared.

He urged Recorder Patrick Palmer to adjourn the sentencing hearing, pointing to the fact that Higgins, 25, of Highlees Road, Mixenden, Halifax, was a man of previous good character.

He had entered a prompt guilty plea to the offence of production of 12.2 kilos of canna-bis in Halifax on or before May 30 last year.

Mr Bottomley conceded that it was “a substantial amount of plants,” but said that any prison sentence could be suspended.

Abdul Shakoor, barrister for the prosecution, said it was the Crown’s case that Higgins had played a significant role in producing a commercial quantity of cannabis.

Higgins was re-bailed to attend court on September 7.

Recorder Palmer warned him that it would be an all options probation report.
