PLANS to create a new access road to a rural site have been refused, with planners saying they would lead to the “urbanisation of the Green belt.”

The application, to create a new access road from Apperley Lane, between Apperley Bridge and Rawdon, to agricultural land off the busy road, were refused by Bradford Council earlier this month.

Submitted by a Mr Beamish, the application would allow traffic to the site to avoid using the existing access on Crow Tree, shared with a number of houses, and create a new entrance to the site.

The application said: “The new access and road has been designed to ensure the safe passing of vehicles, and to serve the operational needs of the land to continue its current agricultural use.”

But while planning officers acknowledged the issues with the current access route, they did not support plans for the new road to the site.

Refusing the application they said: “The proposed road would result in continuous hard surfacing raised by at least 6m above the open Greenbelt for a considerable length and result in the urbanisation of the Greenbelt.”

They added: “The proposed new access will result in slow moving heavy vehicles entering and exiting the site onto a fast moving road the A658. This will create conditions that are prejudicial to highway safety."
