A TEENAGE film-maker has won awards for her latest production - a road movie.
Ava Bounds shot her first film,a sci-fi adventure called Players, in the first lockdown in 2020 with the help of her neighbours who appeared in the cast. The film won a Bafta Youth Award and a nomination for IMDb best new filmmaker 2020. Her second film, Beth, shot in August 2020, was about a patient who escaped from High Royds psychiatric hospital in Menston. It won a Youth Award in the Indy Short Fest in America.
Now Ava has made a road movie, Hello Frisco, about four teenagers battling the elements to save a life. The film has already won awards for best student film and best cinematography. Said Ava: “The concept came to me as I was thinking about what fun it could be coming out of lockdown. It's been was a long, dark year and I thought 'I'll take this idea, grab some actors and shoot it in one day. And it worked.”
Aged 12, Ava worked with director Sam Mendes in his West End hit The Ferryman. She is currently in pre-production for her new film, Dying to Meet You, set in 1930s America.
