TRIBUTES have flooded in since the news was released that Brian Travers has passed away aged 62.

The statement released on UB40’S social media pages states he had “a long, heroic” battle with cancer.

The star had revealed he suffered a seizure just before Christmas and was facing a second brain operation in just two years.

In light of the news, UB4O fans have flocked to social media to share their condolences and fond memories of the reggae star.

One said: “a legend who needs honouring... So sad to hear the passing of Brian Travers. What a saxophonist Saxophone...What a guy... Up there with the best. The tunes will live on in your memory. RIP BRIAN”

Another added: “Sad news about Brian Travers. Thank you for the music of my youth”

A third said: “#rip Brian travers... I only knew him briefly, he was such a kind big hearted man…”

The UB4O statement reads: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our comrade, brother, founding UB40 member and musical legend, Brian David Travers.

"Brian passed away yesterday evening with his family by his side, after a long and heroic battle with cancer. Our thoughts are with Brian’s wife Lesley, his daughter Lisa and son Jamie.

"We are all devastated by this news and ask that you respect the family’s need for privacy at this time.”
