FIREFIGHTERS were called to a derelict pub last night by police.
Crews from Thornton and Illingworth were called to the former Springfield Hotel on Market Street, Thornton, at 7.50pm.
There were reports youths had been pushing lit paper behind the boarding which is currently covering the building.
Firefighters used a hose reel to put the fire out and a fan to get rid of the smoke.
They also boarded up the makeshift letterbox which the lit paper had been pushed through.
Firefighters were at the scene for around 20 minutes.
