CLIFFE Castle Park in Keighley became a hive of excitement when a “pollinators’ picnic” was held there.

The bee-themed day was part of the Summer Unlocked series of arts events taking place across the district over the Summer holidays.

The event attracted thousands of families to the park, and featured a bee-themed steampunk performance from Q20 Theatre.

Children were given the chance to hear about local environmental projects, there were costumed characters to take selfies with, while Morrisons were giving out seeds to families to plant their own be friendly blooms.

Bradford’s Police Museum also had a presence there, with vintage uniforms and vehicles.

The event was organised by Bradford Council.

The park has a strong link with bees - Airedale Beekeepers’ Association regularly holds sessions there in school holidays and last year the park received the Bees Needs Champion award, supported by DEFRA.

The award recognises sites which have worked to take action and improve the lives of pollinators.
