PLANS to build industrial units on a car park on the edge of Bradford city centre have been approved.

Amissou Properties proposals to build two industrial units on the car park of Virgo House, Caledonia Street, were refused by planning officers earlier this year.

The Coal Authority had objected to the plans, saying the application did not give enough weight to the fact that there could be "unidentified coal mines" on the site.

The Authority said the site was a "high risk" area that could include old mine works.

A new application was submitted - this time with much more detail on how the development would deal with the discovery of any unknown mines.

Plan to turn empty office into bedsits for people at risk of homelessness is approved

The Coal Authority dropped its objection to the plans, and the application has now been approved by Bradford Council.

The application is for a speculative development of two 100 square metre industrial units - and so the type of businesses that will occupy the buildings is not yet known.

Virgo House is the former home of Virgo Home Improvements, which shut in 2018. The new plans only relate to the building's car park area - and not the former office building, which has planning permission to be converted into a hostel for the homeless.
